For the scope of this writing, Hays Migration will talk about TRA Skill Assessment with Job ready program (JRP) with details in each steps for your information. With TRA Job Ready Program, there are total 4 steps starting from the time international students are completing their trade courses and normally ending at around 1 year maximum after the step 2 has been commenced.

The most difficult things for JRP is that starting from step 2, international students have to complete 1725 hours of working for a maximum 12 months, 3 months prior to step 2 commencement date can be counted. So, it requires applicants to work around more than 30 hours per week during job ready program.

However, with friendly migration policy from South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania or Northern Territory, Applicants are also eligible for state nomination application after they have done their job ready program to fulfill state nomination requirement for visa 491 and visa 190.

Step 1 - Provisional Skill Assessments

The Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA) is the first step of the Job Ready Program (JRP). The purpose of the PSA is to verify the authenticity of your Australian qualification and any previous employment and/or vocational placement you have undertaken in an Australian workplace. A successful PSA outcome is required before you can apply to Step 2 – Job Ready Employment (JRE).

Note: A successful PSA outcome can be used to apply to the Department of Home Affairs for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485). To apply for a 485 visa, your occupation must be listed as a Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) occupation on the Department of Home Affairs Skilled Occupation List. This is Graduate Work stream 485 visa so you only have 18 months living and working in Australia and no extension like others who graduate bachelor degree or higher.

Step 2 - Job Ready Employment

Job Ready Employment (JRE) is the second step of the Job Ready Program (JRP). The purpose of JRE is to enable you to gain experience in an Australian workplace to further develop skills relevant to your occupation.

From step 2 to step 4, you are required to complete it within 12 months from the start date of step 2 application

Complete at least 1725 hours of paid employment over a minimum of 12 months from your JRE start date.

*You can claim up to three consecutive months of paid employment immediately prior to JRE.

Eligibility:

• Hold and lodge visa application that has full work rights, valid for >12 months (Normally 485 visa)

• <4 months on Student visa

• Secured Eligible employment during your PSA

Step 3 - Job Ready Workplace Assessment

Assessor from a TRA-approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will conduct the assessment on the tasks you have been performing during your employment as recorded in your Employment Verification Report (EVR) and Skills Progress Report (SPR).

If you have done 863 hourse of paid employment over a period of 6 months, An Assessor from RTO will assess your skill level by checking your job duties and presence of your supervisor in order to ensure you have achieved that skill level of your occupation.

Step 4 - Job Ready Final Assessment

Job Ready Final Assessment is the final step of the Job Ready Program (JRP). After the completion of 1725 hours within a period of 12 months, you can apply for full skill assessment. In this step, relevant assessing authority will conduct full skill assessment of your nominated occupation.

Trade occupations like Chef, motor mechanic (Automotive), Carpenter or Agriculture Technician… are in very high demand in Australia especially during the Pandemic Covid-19. Some states actually invited offshore applicants to fulfill skill shortage of their regions in trade occupations. A large number of visas are announced every year, but only a few are being invited and a number of quotas have been left. This will lead to faster processing time for skilled applicants in trade occupations, easier migration pathway and requirements in order to encourage more tradies to apply for General Skilled Migration Visa.

If you score low points on points test (EOI) table, you can still get permanent residency based on your trade qualification and Job ready program. There are states like South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania have very friendly state nomination migration policy for skilled migrants. After your full skill assessment, you can apply for Permanent Residency visas like General Skilled Migration Visa or Employer-Sponsored Visa on the basis of Job Ready Program.
